Evaluations

Voice & communication disorders impact an individual's ability to be understood. In regards to voicing, this may be due to reduced volume, breathy-sounding voice, and chronic hoarse voice. Vocal changes may be related to aging, Parkinson's, and head and neck cancer. Communication difficulties, however, can be from a significant wide range of causes. Speech therapy helps treat any issue that impacts your ability to interact with others and complete activities in your daily life.

We will begin with an evaluation to understand the underlying cause for vocal and/or communication changes. We will also spend time getting to know the client and their therapy goals to live their best life.

Therapy

Following the evaluation, we partner with the client and their family to develop a voice and/or communication therapy plan. Our goal to help you maintain the health of your voice and the effectiveness of your communication. Voice & communication therapy utilizes evidence-based strategies to help clients:

  • Strengthen their voice as they age

  • Regain communication after a total laryngectomy

  • Incorporate word finding strategies into conversation

  • Improve auditory comprehension

  • Enhance written communication (e.g., handwriting, emails, texts)
